About the Artist

Hello! I'm Caitlin!

I’m a Sioux Falls-based mixed media artist exploring Midwest inspired imagery.

Connecting to the Prairie

My subject matter focuses on Midwest imagery, especially local plants and animals. As my work has evolved, I’ve started to integrate traditional Scandinavian folk art motifs, including a series of clay jackalope mounts painted in bright, folk art inspired designs.

Sharing the Wonder

My artwork is color-driven, inspired by my memories and emotions. Through my pieces, I aim to evoke a sense of connection to the region that has shaped me, drawing viewers into a world of whimsical, folkloric beauty that feels familiar and fresh.

Why I do this work

The driving force behind why I create art is a love of visual discovery and experimentation. It’s interesting to me to reimagine rural themes. Experimentation with mediums is also motivating for me. Through my art, I’m able to delve into “what if” questions: What happens when I explore and combine my seemingly disparate interests? How can I push a technique while still maintaining high levels of craftsmanship and execution? How can I surprise and delight the viewer? I love seeing where these creative journeys lead me, and sharing my journey with others.

See this exploration at work in my latest series Becoming Whole.
